Dewani contacts prominent SA lawyer
Eyewitness News has learnt a prominent South African lawyer may end up representing Shrien Dewani if he stands trial here.
Dewani is expected to appear in a London court this Thursday to fight his extradition to South Africa.
Eyewitness News understands a well-known Cape Town criminal lawyer has been tentatively contacted by the Dewanis. A relative of Shrien Dewani apparently called the lawyer recently.
The defence counsel has not agreed to assist the British businessman in any capacity at this stage.
Prominent lawyer Billy Gundelfinger was initially hired by the Briton to keep a watching brief last year when he was singled out as the alleged mastermind in his wife’s apparent assassination.
However, he pulled out just days later for unknown reasons.
There are reports that Dewani is considering returning to Cape Town willingly on the condition that he not be jailed during the duration of the trial.
