No voluntary extradition deal for Dewani yet
The Justice Department has reiterated it does not intend entering into any extradition deal with British businessman Shrien Dewani at this stage. Dewani’s extradition inquiry was postponed on Thursday in a London court. He was not present as he is said to be suffering from acute stress disorder.
The matter has now been set down for 8 February.
The businessman is reportedly willing to return to South Africa under strict conditions.
Justice Ministry spokesperson Tlali Tlali said, “As we speak, we have not been formally approached with any such arrangements, and it is not until we have been approached formally that we could possibly consider any possible arrangement,” he said.
