Top SA Lawyer Billy Gundelfinger has dropped the Dewani Case. Why do you think?

Cape Town - The South African lawyer representing Briton Shrien Dewani, the husband of a Swedish tourist murdered in Cape Town in mid-November, has withdrawn from the case.

Billy Gundelfinger, a top divorce and criminal lawyer based in Johannesburg, started working for Dewani two weeks after his wife Anni Dewani was murdered in Gugulethu, outside Cape Town.

Speculation surrounding Shrien Dewani’s involvement in his wife’s murder began increasing following different details he gave to the media about what happened on the night of the murder.

Gundelfinger staunchly defended his former client when representing him and said in an interview with eNews that he quit the case because “lawyers merely withdraw from cases all the time”.

“My withdrawal (from the case) was amicable,” Gundelfinger told eNews. The lawyer said that he could not comment on Shrien Dewani’s reaction to his withdrawal as that was a confidential matter between client and lawyer.
